After Kailer's game on Saturday, we decided to head into the city and check out the beaches. This was the first time we had been into the city in the 7 months that we have lived here! We decided it was about time we explore our new surroundings! We landed at East Beach/Crissy Fields right past the Golden Gate Bridge. It's a beautiful beach, a bit windy, but filled with people, kids, sailboats and lots of dogs! The kids had a blast running from the waves, playing in the warm sand and playing with all the friendly dogs. Colby never left the shoreline! He LOVED it!

Kailer played in his first baseball game last weekend. He's on the Yankees- completely random! Michael is coaching and they are both having a great time. Kailer is always counting down the days until the next practice or game. He played pitcher, first and second on Saturday and played like an allstar! The greatest thing about it is how happy he is out on that diamond, regardless of what happens. He just loves to play!

Last weekend, one of my best and oldest friends (not by age) came for a weekend visit from Nashville. We had a fun time hanging out and catching up. She was so great to entertain the kids as they climbed all over her the entire weekend. We've known each other since birth, and I'm so thankful that we're made the efforts to stay in touch throughout the years. She is a dear friend and I am very thankful for her friendship!

Snow Day

We took a drive up North toward Tahoe to spend a day in the snow. We've been having withdrawals this winter! It was a beautiful, warm, sunny day and the kids had a blast! Okay. . . . well, Kailer had a blast. Addie and Colby were still a little under the weather, and the snow was really deep so they had a tough time making their way around. But it was good to get away and explore a little bit more of Northern California. The mountains were gorgeous, and the Foster's Freeze ice cream on the way home was delicious!

After Christmas, the Sarrett cousins came to visit. Kailer, Addie and Colby couldn't have been more excited to have another houseful of company. We made a trip to the Jelly Belly Factory, played baseball at the park, visited a bounce house, explored the Travis Air Museum and held an incredibly hilarious muscle contest.

Scariest Night of My Life

I always imagined myself staying calm in an emergency. . . . This was definitely not the case on Saturday night. At 10pm, an 85 year-old man ran his car off the road and into our van, shoving it into the Charger. It appears he had a heart attack. I immediately called 911, while Michael ran out to check on the man. The engine was still revving because his foot was stuck on the accelerator. He was not breathing, completely unresponsive. We pulled him out of the car and Michael started CPR. He began to gasp for breath and foam at the mouth. A parade of police, paramedics, and fireman were on the scene in minutes and quickly took over. 45 minutes after this all began, he was in the ambulance, breathing and off to a hospital. I spoke with his wife the following day; he was in critical, but stable condition, had not woken up yet, and had tubes coming in and out of him all over the place. We continue to pray for his recovery and thank God that we were home, that he crashed into our yard where there were people that could help him. Had he made it home, only five more houses down, his wife would not have been able to save him.

As our families continue to expand, it has become increasingly difficult to get the whole gang together in one place at the same time. This summer was the first time in several years that everyone was able to make it. Grant it, there was only about a 24-hour period where we were all together at once, but we made it happen and actually got a half-way decent picture of us all. Our brother, Chris, was the only one that couldn't make it. We had a wonderful weekend full of fun, games, laughter and joy. Hopefully we can continue this tradition in the years to come! There is truly nothing as close as the bond shared between family!

Oh how I long for thee.

I've been stalling. Stalling to put the last batch of pictures from New York up. All of these shots are from June, right before we moved. It's nearing the end of November now, and I'm just now able to bring myself to post these glimpses into our last moments in the Big Apple. I think that I was afraid that maybe it would make things here all too real. I don't think I'll ever truly be able to say goodbye to the place I called home for the last 4 years. There's just something special about that city. . . . about those people. . . .

The Cannings were some of the first and best friends we made in New York. The kids LOVED them, especially Tori and Ali. Anyone who knows my kids, knows that they are busy and a little on the rough n' tough side. Most kids aren't sure how to respond to a two-year-old little girl who puts you in a choke hold just to say hello. So, it was a real treat for them to find Josh and Amelia, who turned out to be great wrestling partners. I'm bummed we didn't get a picture with their parents, Rich and Sara, and little Eddie. It was great getting to know the whole family, it was just too bad we had to leave so soon after meeting them! They were also the ones who were so gracious to let Michael stay in their extra room while he finished up at NYU!

Happy Birthday Colby Jace!

We drove to Ridgecrest last weekend to celebrate Colby's first birthday, November 6th. We considered staying home and just having a little party with the kids, but birthday's are always so much more special when you're surrounded by loving family. I tried to hold off on the hair cut a little bit longer, but it was getting little too wispy. Knowing that Colby is most likely my last, I'm not at all anxious for him to grow up, but he's already becoming such a big boy right before my eyes. Just the other day, Addie woke up from her nap and was crying. So Colby went and found her mimi (little pink bunny) and brought it to her. He is such a sweet little boy- and ALWAYS so happy! He just goes with the flow, which happens to be pretty crazy around here most of the time. Kailer and Adelynne love him very much and have taught him to be a tough little cookie. Colby's also quite the chatter box, mimicking everything his siblings say and do. He loves to read books and is obsessed with tools- but not those fun little play tools. He insists on the real thing, especially screwdrivers and hammers. He can't be fooled! As sweet and easygoing as he is right now, I have a strong suspicion that he is going to grow up to be a very determined little boy!

Cool Patch Pumpkins

Last weekend, Michael and I took the kids to Cool Patch Pumpkins in Dixon- only about a 15 minute drive from us. It was a great day, filled with pumpkin picking, pumpkin pie eating, corn baths, hay mazes and lots of smiles!

The Duck Pond

Travis AFB has a beautiful duck pond, surrounded by a running track and a great playground. The kids had so much fun feeding an entire loaf of bread to the ducks. Colby just sat there on the bank the entire time and enjoyed some of the bread himself. A highlight of the duck pond. . . .bathrooms!

Happy Birthday, my baby boy

My baby boy turned 5 on Monday. He thinks it's funny when I call him my baby, but he always has been, and always will be my baby boy. There's something special about your first born. Yes, I know, every child is special. But I feel that there's just something a little different about the bonding experience with your first born.

Everyone always says it, but it's true, they do grow up too fast. Year number 4 was a great one for Kailer. Here are just a few of the more memorable experiences from this past year:

Kailer is becoming such a kind, loving, smart, strong, independent little boy. Most of his interests involve a sport or something active, or anything outdoors. He'd much rather be playing baseball, riding his bike, or digging for worms than playing with toys. And his little sister and brother are always right at his toes. He looks out for them and really loves them. I am so proud of him!

When Michael got to visit us in California in August, we gave Kailer his birthday present a month early. He was so excited when he saw that bike sitting there in the garage. He rode up and down the street telling everyone he saw that is was his birthday and he was 5 years old!

U-C-L-A, Fight! Fight! Fight!

A couple of weekends ago, I enlisted Grandma and Grammy to watch the littlest ones while Kailer and I headed to the Rose Bowl to watch UCLA beat SDSU! Thank you Grandmas! And thank you to Jan and Grant Benbow for the 2 extra tickets! This was Kailer's first UCLA football game and he had a blast. He's been hearing about these Bruins for the last few years, watching them on TV, performing the 8-clap, wearing all the paraphernalia. But this was his first REAL Bruin Football encounter. I feel awful that Michael wasn't able to come with us- he's still training away at Maxwell AFB in Alabama. We tailgated in the LA heat a couple hours before the game. Kai insisted on playing catch with the football the entire time! Thank you Grant for appeasing him and his endless energy!

I wasn't sure how long Kailer would last. Football games are long and he's barely 5 years old. But when I told him it was time to leave at the end of the 3rd quarter (it was past 7:30 and we still had a 2 1/2 hour drive ahead of us. . . and Colby's still nursing and it had been 9 hours without any relief :) ) he cried. He was so sad and in disbelief that I would make him leave before the end of the game! He was having way too much fun! It was a wonderful day with friends and my biggest boy!

Colby started walking at 9 months and officially stopped crawling by 10. He's constantly running into walls and cracking his head, but we just can't seem to get him to slow down. What do you do when you have 2 crazy siblings to keep up with? Poor guy!

Dr. Michael E. Bachman, Jr. DDS

After four long years of a tremendous amount of hard work, Michael has completed Dental school and is now officially a Dentist! I can't even begin to explain how proud I am of him. It has been a long haul and a fantastic adventure for our family, and we are now ready to have some sort of normalcy in our lives. Michael is headed to Commissioned Officer Training in Alabama for the month of September, and then we will all move up North to Travis AFB in Vacaville, CA. We miss New York more than we ever imagined we could, but are looking forward to beginning this next chapter in our lives!
